In a first, India has been staged as a platform for unveiling a smartphone for the world not only just India. At an event held in Gurugram, India HMD Global, the house of Nokia Phones pulled the wraps off the Nokia 2.
Looking at the spec sheet, the device is running on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 212 mobile platform which is an entry level LTE capable chip from the US based chip maker. An 8 Megapixel at the rear with LED flash and a 5 Megapixel at front will handle photography enthusiasm.
The frame is made up of a single block of 6000 series aluminium, front is covered with Gorilla Glass 3 on top of 5 Inch HD LTPS Display for better contrast. The rear is polycarbonate. Overall, the phone looks good and is sturdy and robust.
It has 1 GB ram and 8 GB storage but for 7k that is quite less even for Nokia. It will be a good proposition only if they equip it with 2 GB ram and 16 GB storage or bring the price down to 5500 INR.
The phone runs on Android Nougat 7.1 and will be updated to Oreo 8.0 soon.
The phone is available in three colour options Pewter Black with black face and frame, Pewter White with white face, black frame, and Copper, with black face, black back, and copper frame.
Nokia 2 include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS/ A-GPS, FM radio with RDS, Micro-USB, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Sensors include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, digital compass, and proximity sensor
They also teased Nokia 9 which is another phone covered in glass after Nokia 7 which was recently launched in china with snapdragon 630 mobile platform 64 GB storage and option of 4 or 6 GB Ram, 16 megapixels main shooter, starting price of around 2499 RMB which is almost equivalent to 25000 INR.
Although there is no official timeline for Nokia 9 but they will be launching it by the end of this year as a flagship with dual lens camera setup as visible in this image powered by Zeiss optics. There is also a word out that it will have bezel less front with curved display. Will have to wait to find out.
